It is indeed an exciting time for Physical Education in California. The Governor’s 2006-07 budget designated $500 million for physical education and the Arts.

The physical education funds are currently designated for physical education equipment, supplies and professional development for physical education and physical fitness. The funds are in the form of a block grant, which will be distributed to County Offices of Education, Charter Schools and School Districts for school site expenditures.

Included new language on $500M Block Grant for Physical Education and the Arts. This bill, additionally, would authorize the funds to be expended for professional development in arts, music, or physical fitness, and thereby would make an appropriation by expanding the purposes for which the funds may be expended.
