Recess Workshops

Peaceful Playgrounds Program was developed by Dr. Melinda Bossenmeyer in 1978.

Dr. Bossenmeyer has her Master's in Physical Education with an emphasis in Children's Motor Development. She is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant, designer of school playgrounds, and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).

The Peaceful Playgrounds Program objective has not changed in 30 years. It continues to provide a playground experience that children find peaceful and adult supervisors enjoy!

Since its inception the Peaceful Playgrounds Program has been implemented in over 8,000 schools nationwide. It has earned praise by:

Workshop Overview

Overview Session of Program Contents: Safety, Rules, Procedures, Philosophy and Program Components.

Size: Willing to work with any size group. For teachers and playground supervisors we recommend that you limit group size to 150.

Owner/Designer - Peaceful Playgrounds

Dr. Melinda Bossenmeyer is the author of six published books on playgrounds and numerous articles and a book chapter on recess, playgrounds and play. She has presented over 100 sessions on physical education, recess, play facilitation and playgrounds.

Melinda is recognized as a playground design expert and is Nationally Certified as a Playground Inspector. She was the past chairperson for preschool and elementary education for the California Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She is the Chair Elect for the Council on Play for AAHPERD.

Dr. Bossenmeyer is a former elementary school physical education teacher and principal, and she directed Kinder/Kids Gym a movement program for 1600 preschool children in 70 preschool locations throughout Southern California.
